MoonClerk, founded by Ryan Wood and Dodd Caldwell to make recurring payments easy for nonprofits and small businesses, needed an email provider to send dynamic receipts and transactional messages on behalf of their customers. They initially evaluated Postmark but experimented with Mandrill to allow sending from customers' domains without extra verification; however, Mandrill’s limited message history made troubleshooting older deliveries difficult, creating support overhead for the small MoonClerk team.
MoonClerk ultimately returned to Postmark and leveraged Postmark’s 45-day storage of text, HTML, and raw source for every message, plus a workaround of setting Reply‑To and Sender Name to customer info. Using Postmark let their team quickly locate and diagnose deliveries without extra developer effort, reduced support friction, and provided scalable, credit-based sending so MoonClerk can grow email volume without worrying about overages.
