A Postman Case Study
Western Governors University (WGU), a nonprofit higher education institution, needed a better way to manage API testing, governance, documentation, and license administration as its engineering teams scaled. Its manual testing and reporting processes were slow and inconsistent, with sprint-cycle testing taking up to 96 hours, load testing causing visibility issues, and sparse API documentation making onboarding and collaboration difficult. WGU turned to Postman Enterprise to support its growing API-first development needs.
Postman implemented automated testing with Newman, mock servers, SSO/SCIM user management, and enterprise governance features to streamline collaboration and standardize API workflows across teams. As a result, WGU reduced sprint-cycle testing time from 96 hours to 5–6 hours per scrum team, cut individual test time from 30 minutes to 15 minutes, lowered multi-team testing from 4 hours to 1 hour, and shortened development time from 6–9 weeks to 2–4 weeks.
