A Postman Case Study
Paylocity, a payroll and HRIS provider founded in 1997, faced the challenge of testing and managing a growing set of microservices and dozens of APIs as it moved away from a monolithic architecture. To scale QA across teams and reduce manual effort, Paylocity adopted the Postman API Platform—using Postman Collections, scripts, environment variables, Newman, and webhooks—to standardize and simplify API testing and developer self-service.
Postman enabled Paylocity teams to build shared Collections, automate nightly environment diagnostics and CI smoke tests with Newman, script complex test setups (including authentication and sensitive-data checks), and run performance and load experiments (one collection ran 100x for load testing). The results: faster turnaround and higher velocity for QA and development, about 90% of API test cases executed in Postman, and detection of several missed-data issues in a benchmark of 1,800 requests—freeing engineers for more exploratory work and speeding release cycles.
