NMDP predicts donor readiness for 42 million people with Posit PBC

NMDP, a global nonprofit leader in cell therapy, faced a significant challenge with donor availability. When patients needed a life-saving transplant, less than half of the potential donors on their 42-million-person registry were willing and able to donate. To better understand their registry without repeatedly contacting every donor, they turned to Posit PBC and utilized Posit Connect and Posit Package Manager to develop a solution.

Using Posit Connect, NMDP built and automated a machine learning algorithm called the Donor Readiness Score (DRS), which predicts a donor's likelihood to donate. This solution, integrated with Snowflake for scalable compute, allows physicians to prioritize contacting the most available matches first, accelerating the search process for urgent patients. The work of Posit PBC has been fundamental to NMDP's data science function, helping them pursue their strategic goal of impacting 10,000 lives annually with life-saving cell therapy.

NMDP
