ICF modernizes CDC surveillance with Posit as 6-8M health messages flow daily

ICF, a consulting firm supporting the CDC's National Syndromic Surveillance Program, faced the challenge of modernizing the BioSense Platform from a limited-use application into a sophisticated analytics hub for public health surveillance. Partnering with vendor Posit PBC and utilizing their Posit Team suite—including Posit Workbench, Posit Connect, and Posit Package Manager—ICF sought to create an open and transparent collaboration framework for critical health response efforts.

The solution implemented by Posit was a centralized, cloud-hosted collaboration workspace on AWS. This transformed the platform into a community-based system enabling complex, real-time surveillance operations at federal, state, and local levels. The results achieved by Posit's tools have made the BioSense Platform an indispensable instrument for public health preparedness, processing over 6 million electronic health messages daily and monitoring over 75% of emergency department visits nationwide to inform responses to epidemics, natural disasters, and other health threats.
