Case Study: TGen achieves repeatable, portable genomics workflows and 50% lower storage costs with Portworx

A Portworx Case Study

Preview of the Tgen Case Study

Portworx Enables Critical Workflows to be Transported and Repeated In Healthcare Units Throughout TGen

TGen (Translational Genomics Research Institute) faced an explosion of genomics data—terabytes per patient with retention and encryption requirements up to 25 years—that was diverting attention from delivering consistent, repeatable patient care across specialty units. To solve data portability and workflow repeatability challenges, TGen evaluated container technology and adopted Portworx to containerize and manage persistent data alongside their genomics workflows.

TGen deployed Portworx to package entire validated workflows and make data portable across CAP/CLIA-type environments, enabling rapid deployments and easier retrieval of archived data (including data stored up to 25 years). With Portworx, TGen achieved production parity with their high-performance Lustre system, increased hardware utilization, gained scalability to thousands of nodes, and expects to reduce storage costs by 50% or more—all after an initial Portworx deployment that took only hours with vendor support.
