How GE Digital Tackled the Stateful / Stateless Problem for Industrial IoT

GE Digital was building Predix, its Industrial IoT platform, and faced a significant challenge in managing stateful applications. While their Cloud Foundry environment excelled with stateless apps, they needed a unified infrastructure to also run stateful, data-intensive services like Cassandra and Elasticsearch. They required a storage solution that was cloud-agnostic and provided critical enterprise features such as encryption and snapshots natively.

Portworx provided its cloud-native storage software to solve GE Digital's stateful problem within their Mesos environment. The Portworx solution enabled dynamic provisioning, high availability with automatic failover, and a consistent storage experience across different cloud providers. This allowed the Predix platform to run both stateless and stateful workloads harmoniously, providing their internal customers with a self-service, programmable platform that is highly available and secure for business-critical industrial applications.
