Wales Millennium Centre - Customer Case Study

Wales Millennium Centre, a major arts and conference venue in Cardiff handling over £9 million in ticket sales and serving more than a million visitors a year, needed to secure a complex network of some 1,500 physical access ports and a wide range of IP devices while meeting PCI DSS obligations. An initial 802.1x NAC approach failed because the Centre’s 400 VoIP handsets were incompatible, so the IT team turned to Portnox (via reseller Preventia) for an alternative NAC solution.

Portnox implemented a port-level NAC that fingerprints and monitors every IP device, recognizing PCs, printers, alarms, tills and all 400 VoIP phones, and provides a single real-time network view. The full rollout in January 2010 gave instant port control, automatic disconnection of unauthorized devices, and streamlined administration—saving an estimated 5 hours per week, avoiding ~£40,000 in handset replacements, and helping the Centre meet PCI compliance.
