Speedcast reduces sites from 6 to 3 with PortaOne

Speedcast, a leading satellite communications and IT firm, faced significant challenges with its outdated, on-premises infrastructure. The company's complex system, consolidated from acquisitions, consisted of 23 servers across six global sites and had not been updated in nearly two years. To expand its business support capabilities and value-added services, Speedcast needed to modernize but was constrained by high-security MPLS requirements and the high cost of hardware upgrades. They partnered with vendor PortaOne and its PortaSwitch platform to explore a cloud migration solution.

PortaOne implemented a carefully planned proof-of-concept and then executed a full migration of Speedcast's system to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. The solution involved updating PortaSwitch by 20 maintenance releases and the Oracle database version while seamlessly integrating the secure MPLS network. As a result, Speedcast reduced its server infrastructure from 23 to 15 installations and cut its redundant sites from six to three, significantly lowering capital expenditure. The migration provided increased scalability, access to new profitable features, and minimal customer impact, successfully future-proofing Speedcast's operations.
