A PortaOne Case Study
Ironton Telephone Company, a century-old competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC), needed to expand its business model with a modern, cloud-based communications portfolio to remain competitive. Their challenge was to acquire a cutting-edge technical infrastructure that was highly available, affordable, and flexible enough to support new services like SIP trunking and hosted IP PBX for a national and international market. They partnered with vendor PortaOne and selected its PortaSwitch solution to power these new offerings.
PortaOne implemented its PortaSwitch platform, which is an integrated softswitch and business support system (BSS). The solution included PortaSIP for switching and PortaBilling for B/OSS capabilities. Ironton Global selected a high-availability Oracle RAC-based configuration and later expanded with a secondary site for full geographic redundancy. As a result, PortaOne enabled the company to confidently deliver a full portfolio of services, including SIP trunking, IP Centrex, and hosted PBX, helping them meet or exceed competitor offerings at a better overall cost and reach a new global market.
