Unity College, a 900-student liberal arts school in Maine, struggled as the number of campus apps (Office 365, Canvas, SharePoint, etc.) grew: students had to re-authenticate for each service, adoption was inconsistent, and IT spent excessive time on forgotten-password requests. The college needed a single, easy-to-use entry point to improve access and reduce help-desk workload.

Unity implemented an on-premise PortalGuard solution — a customizable SSO portal using SAML/CAS and forms-based authentication with self-service password reset and the option to phase in two-factor authentication. The rollout gave users a single login that surfaced available apps (boosting awareness and adoption), cut password-reset tickets, and provided a flexible, integrated platform for future security enhancements.
