Clermont Northeastern Schools - Customer Case Study

Clermont Northeastern Schools, a K‑12 district in Ohio serving about 5,000 users, struggled with fragmented authentication: students and staff had different usernames and passwords across Active Directory, Google Apps, and Moodle, causing repeated login prompts, user confusion, and a high volume of help‑desk requests. The district needed a way to unify credentials, eliminate multiple sign‑ins, and provide an easy self‑service password reset option to boost adoption.

PortalGuard was deployed as an on‑premises Identity Provider to provide SAML single sign‑on to Google Apps (native) and Moodle (via the AuthSAML plug‑in), while Google Apps Directory Sync (GADS) standardized usernames and Google Apps Password Sync (GAPS) kept passwords aligned with AD. Combined with PortalGuard’s knowledge‑based self‑service password reset, the solution reduced help‑desk calls and enabled students and staff to use a single set of credentials for all systems, with plans to add OTP via Google Authenticator for even easier resets.
