How Checkmarx saved hundreds of thousands of dollars on developer environments with Port

Checkmarx, a cybersecurity software company, faced significant operational and financial challenges due to inefficient developer environment management. The company’s DevOps team was overwhelmed by support tickets, and developers were slowed down by five different, non-standardized methods for creating environments. This lack of a unified, self-service process led to high costs from environments running constantly and a major reduction in developer autonomy and productivity.

By implementing Port's internal developer portal, Checkmarx introduced self-service actions and automations for creating and destroying environments. This gave developers full autonomy while enforcing cost-saving guardrails like Time-to-Live settings. The solution, which standardized environments using a lightweight k3d setup, resulted in projected savings of hundreds of thousands of dollars, reducing the cost of an environment from $30/hour to as low as $0.70/hour. Port also enabled a 97% infrastructure cost savings and an 80% reduction in the deployment process time.
