A POPin Case Study
POPin, a crowdsolving platform, partnered with Denver-based testing ground The Shuuk to help inventor Matt Dubberley of LighterBro gather real-world consumer input. Faced with the limits of traditional focus groups—artificial settings and constrained interaction—the team needed a scalable, authentic way to collect early-adopter feedback on product features and market ideas.
They ran a POPin session (41 invited, 23 logged in), in which 22 users generated 37 ideas, 32 comments and 242 votes (96% participation of logged-in users). Testers gave actionable suggestions—women’s version, add a light, remove the belt clip, private branding—and praised the platform as easy and collaborative. LighterBro plans to adopt many recommendations, and both founders and testers said crowdsourcing delivered higher engagement and practical insights that could replace traditional focus groups.
