A PoolParty Case Study
Boehringer Ingelheim, the global pharmaceutical company, needed a scientific information tracking service to better leverage internal and external publication data. Its challenge was to unify distributed structured and unstructured content and make it easier to analyze publication activity across locations, authors, and journals. PoolParty’s semantic data portal and PoolParty Thesaurus Server were used to support this use case.
PoolParty implemented a semantic web–based tracking application with faceted search, data visualizations, and trend analysis on top of a Virtuoso triple store and SPARQL endpoint. The solution normalizes variants such as author names, locations, and misspellings, creating a single point of access for publication monitoring. As a result, Boehringer Ingelheim’s head of science can reliably track the company’s global publication activity, reducing controlling effort and enabling comparison of quality and quantity across sites.
