The Australian National Data Service (ANDS) needed a controlled vocabulary service to help research communities use common language for concepts in datasets, improving discovery, linking, and reuse of research data. Vendor PoolParty provided the vocabulary editing core application, PoolParty Thesaurus Server, to support ANDS’s infrastructure.

PoolParty helped ANDS implement Research Vocabularies Australia (RVA), a vocabulary service built with PoolParty Thesaurus Server alongside RDF4J Server and Elda/SISSVoc for linked data access and discovery. The result was a platform that makes it easier to find, publish, repurpose, create, and manage controlled vocabularies for Australian research organisations, with added support for versioning, licensing, and tagging via a widget.
