A Pomeroy Case Study
Regional Public University, a southern U.S. institution with nearly 11,000 students and 400 faculty, faced outdated wired and wireless infrastructure more than a decade old, frequent downtime, poor Wi‑Fi in hardened concrete residence halls, and immature ITIL/change‑management processes that hurt student recruitment and retention. The university engaged Pomeroy to modernize campus connectivity using Pomeroy’s Wireless as a Service managed‑service model.
Pomeroy implemented a turnkey Wireless as a Service solution—performing wireless surveys, deploying a redundant fiber ring, Cisco Catalyst switches and access points, 24/7 monitoring with Level‑3 ITIL support, and service‑level management—designed to deliver 802.11n+ coverage, a minimum of 10 MB/sec per student and support for five devices per student. The rollout established redundant, 24/7 wireless across 14 residence halls, delivered OpEx cost advantages, and met new SLOs (100% uptime to date and ≤10‑minute average response), improving connectivity, security and student satisfaction; a 15th hall will be added to the managed‑services agreement.
