The Largest School District, serving more than 100,000 students across 172 sites, faced a decade-old, unreliable network with only a 1GB core link, limited wireless and BYOD support, and insufficient capacity to handle bus video and growing cloud needs — all while needing the overhaul completed during a 10-week summer break. Pomeroy (working with Avaya technologies) was engaged to address these performance, bandwidth, redundancy and logistics challenges across more than 170 locations and 450 data closets.

Pomeroy designed and executed a fast, large-scale Avaya-based upgrade—deploying Avaya SPB/VENA architecture, Avaya 4800/ VSP switches, a new VOIP platform, added wireless APs, POE hardware and UPS protection, and increased backbone capacity to 10GB. The engagement delivered measurable results: 10x bandwidth increase, 32% reduced power consumption, UPS protection and reduced rack space in 450 closets, zero failures at cutover, completion 10 days ahead of schedule, and the largest Avaya SPB implementation in the world — transforming the district’s network reliability and capacity.
