8gears uses Pomerium to secure cloud-native apps and ditch their VPN

8gears, a company that helps other businesses develop and deliver cloud applications, faced a challenge when migrating to a Kubernetes environment. They sought to move away from a corporate VPN and needed a consistent way to manage user access to internal tools like Grafana. Their goal was to decouple authentication and authorization to improve security and efficiency.

Pomerium provided the solution by integrating seamlessly with 8gears' identity provider, Auth0. This allowed 8gears to enforce centralized access controls and a least-privilege security model. The implementation of Pomerium resulted in a more secure infrastructure, eliminated the need for a VPN, and required little ongoing maintenance. This freed the 8gears team to focus on product development and customer service instead of access management.
