Community College Deploys Firefox Using PolicyPak to Enforce Policy

Suffolk County Community College, the largest community college in New York with over 26,500 students and a 3,800-person staff, needed a reliable way to enforce application settings across a dynamic environment. Their Computer Support Services team struggled with registry hacks and manual installs to control browsers and plugins (Java, Flash, Adobe Reader) and was hesitant to roll out Firefox without a centralized policy mechanism to manage configurations and updates securely.

The college deployed PolicyPak on-premises using prebuilt Paks for Java, Flash, Adobe Reader and Firefox, integrating it with their existing LANDESK deployment tools. The result was centralized, easy-to-use policy control, secure deployment of Firefox, controlled auto-updates, improved security and time savings for admins — with responsive support and a path to add other apps like Chrome using the same approach.
