North Carolina Housing Finance Agency (NCHFA) needed a better way to share affordable housing data with the public and help stakeholders identify where future investments could have the greatest impact. Its annual State of Housing Report was first distributed as spreadsheets, then through a self-maintained GIS platform, but both approaches were difficult to use and required too much staff effort to update.

NCHFA worked with PolicyMap to embed an interactive, automatically updated map on its website. The solution replaced manual annual data loading with a public-facing platform that refreshes from the PolicyMap database and also includes historical data, while allowing NCHFA to add its own state-sourced indicators such as eviction, foreclosure, and homelessness data. The result was a clearer, easier-to-maintain resource that gives consumers, officials, developers, and advocates quick access to housing data for informed decision-making.
