A PolicyMap Case Study
Jefferson College of Nursing at Thomas Jefferson University wanted to teach undergraduate nursing students that effective healthcare requires more than medical knowledge alone. The faculty needed a way to help students understand the social determinants of health and the socio-economic conditions of the neighborhoods where patients live, using PolicyMap as the vendor and platform for neighborhood-level data.
PolicyMap helped the instructors build a classroom project based on *Third and Indiana* in which students analyzed a character’s zip code to identify local healthcare providers, agencies, and community conditions. With PolicyMap, students gained a more comprehensive view of care and learned to connect treatment decisions to available community resources and place-based challenges, though the case study does not report a quantitative impact.
