Multicare Health System, a group of hospitals in southwest Washington, was facing the critical challenge of improving patient safety and reducing widespread medication errors. They engaged the management consulting firm Point B to lead a large, complex initiative centered around implementing a bedside barcoding solution to address this problem.

Point B led the entire process, from evaluating and selecting the technology vendor to orchestrating a successful pilot and full system-wide rollout across four hospitals. The firm also managed the integration of the new barcode system with the existing electronic medical records. This resulted in a fully automated, end-to-end medication delivery system for MultiCare that validates the five "rights" of medication administration, significantly improving patient safety and earning the organization national recognition.
