School of Medicine Indiana University - Customer Case Study

Indiana University School of Medicine’s faculty practice plan, University Pediatric Associates, faced a burdensome paper-based charge capture process across 19 pediatric subspecialties and more than 300 providers generating 425,000 units of service per year. The manual workflow caused long charge lag times, frequent incomplete or inaccurate coding (about a 13% denial rate with 4% due to coding), high administrative costs, and risk with the upcoming ICD-10 transition, so they sought an electronic solution and selected pMD’s mobile charge capture software.

pMD implemented a point-of-care mobile charge capture and communication solution (going live two months after contracting), including custom handoff fields and robust code libraries. The pMD deployment drove a 98% reduction in charge lag (from ~2 weeks to 0.2 days), outpatient denials fell 80% and inpatient denials 61%, half an FTE was reallocated, and physician adoption and satisfaction increased markedly—improving billing velocity, coding accuracy, and clinical workflow.
