A major molecular diagnostic OEM needed to develop a custom thermal cycler for a new CLIA-waived, point-of-care molecular diagnostic instrument. The challenge was to design a highly reliable and accurate subsystem that could handle unique custom cartridges and drive precise PCR reactions in a non-laboratory setting, all while preventing user error. Plexus engineered a completely custom thermal cycler solution that accommodated the cartridge's irregular surfaces and enabled fast, parallel thermal cycling across three sample chambers. The design ensured precise temperature control, uniform results, and unit-to-unit reproducibility. By leveraging its experience and supply chain, Plexus delivered a solution that supported the successful commercial introduction of the MDx instrument, helping to provide rapid, life-saving diagnoses at the point of care.
