The Electric Materials Company (EMC), a family-owned copper mill and commutator manufacturer in North East, Pennsylvania since 1915, operates a 420,000 ft² plant producing forgings, extrusions and components from over 40 copper alloys for industries from transportation to nuclear. EMC was held back by a legacy 1995 system that left the shop floor paper-based, limited visibility into production and inventory, and made trustworthy data and timely reporting difficult—hindering growth and operational control.

EMC implemented the cloud-based Plex ERP (kickoff Jan 2023) with a team-focused rollout that moved the plant to digital processes almost overnight and reached full productivity within months. The change delivered real-time data, weekly cycle counts and faster month-end closes, reduced IT dependency, and raised on-time deliveries from ~40–50% to 60–70%, while improving collaboration between the shop floor and office and enabling further integrations.
