The Volvo Group Drives Transformation in Enterprise Portfolios to Support the Global Business

The Volvo Group, a global manufacturer of trucks, buses, construction equipment and engines with about 100,000 employees, production in 18 countries and sales in 190 markets, needed to simplify and better prioritize investments after a period of acquisitions. Managing three large investment portfolios (Product 10 billion SEK, Industrial 4 billion SEK and IT 3 billion SEK) and complex cross-portfolio dependencies made it difficult to align projects with strategy, ensure data quality, and speed execution.

Volvo implemented Planview Enterprise to consolidate portfolios, standardize a global configuration blueprint and provide a single, transparent repository for strategic planning, portfolio balancing, execution and application management. The solution enabled traceable prioritization and budget-vs-actual tracking, replaced two legacy tools (reaching breakeven), improved reporting and data quality, and made it easier to replicate the approach across divisions.
