A Planview Case Study
This leading nationwide medical insurance company — a nonprofit licensee serving about 1.5 million members and employing ~5,000 people across upstate New York — faced a turning point when its IT PMO’s rigid processes and heavy governance could no longer keep pace with market demands. Embedded in IT and focused on support, the PMO needed to transform into an enterprise PMO (EPMO) to become a strategic, business-facing asset that could enable faster, more flexible decision-making across the organization.
The company retooled the PMO into an EPMO that emphasizes business value, servant leadership, and “just enough” governance, expanding use of Planview Enterprise One (with Projectplace and LeanKit plus Power BI) to unify portfolio, capacity, architecture and financial data. This shift to iterative, agile practices and real-time investment capacity planning and capability/technology management gave executives transparent prioritization, resource and financial visibility, and a single repository for IT assets — enabling better decisions, faster delivery, and measurable business value.
