How This Automotive Company Responds to Evolving Industry by Creating a Culture of Inclusivity

This North American automotive retailer—founded in 1932 and now the largest aftermarket auto parts chain with about 75,000 employees across the U.S. and Canada—faced rapid industry disruption from ridesharing, electric and autonomous vehicles. Without a defined innovation strategy or process, the company struggled to capture the ideas and expertise of its large, distributed workforce and needed a way to pivot from responding to market changes to becoming an industry disruptor.

The company implemented Planview Spigit to automate a crowdsourced “Innovation Garage,” giving employees a single, scalable platform to submit, vote on, and advance ideas while providing transparency and analytics for sponsors and executives. In under a year the program ran four enterprise challenges, produced seven winning ideas (three implemented), engaged about 1,380 contributors and over 3,000 voters, and drove a greater than 9% increase in employees who view the organization as innovative.
