KBC Bank N.V., a Belgian universal bank with 38,000 employees, wanted to stay ahead of major disruption in financial services by shifting from simply meeting customer needs to delivering greater value faster. The challenge was to create a company‑wide culture of innovation that tapped frontline insights across six countries and multiple languages, while breaking down hierarchical barriers so good ideas could reach decision‑makers.

KBC implemented Spigit’s crowdsourcing platform to unite 12,000+ employees in multilingual challenges, using algorithms to surface the best ideas and provide transparent tracking. The 2014 CEO challenge drew 6,227 participants and 682 viable ideas, with 92% of participants seeing strategic value and 73% saying the program reduced hierarchy; the winning concept, “KBC Universe,” received an implementation guarantee and was launched, proving measurable cultural change and a repeatable innovation process.
