A PLANTA Case Study
Yamaichi Electronics, a Japanese manufacturer of electromechanical components, faced a significant challenge in managing its numerous development projects due to a lack of standardized processes. With individual resources planned across up to 25 projects simultaneously, the company relied on Microsoft Excel and a simple CRM system, which led to projects being started on demand without proper approval. To gain better control and oversight, Yamaichi turned to PLANTA for its project and portfolio management solution, specifically implementing PLANTA Project, PLANTA Portfolio, and the PLANTA Customizer.
PLANTA implemented a standardized process model, replacing the ad-hoc Excel templates. The solution enforced a strict project approval process that could no longer be bypassed, ensuring all projects followed the same rules from idea to proposal to execution. This implementation by PLANTA resulted in a more professional handling of projects, a more efficient use of resources through prioritization, and better predictability for single projects regarding dates, costs, and quality. The company successfully achieved its key objectives, with the separation of ideas, proposals, and projects noted as a major milestone.
