Waterschap Zuiderzeeland Better meetingroom occupancy by combining Planon software with zone sensors

Waterschap Zuiderzeeland, the Dutch water authority for Flevoland, renovated its energy‑neutral headquarters to support flexible workplaces and better collaboration. Although it had used Planon for reservations for over a decade, the organization faced poor meeting‑room utilization—many rooms were booked but left empty—and wanted modern ICT to improve occupancy and workplace efficiency.

The team integrated Planon with Passive Infrared zone sensors over a LoRa network, added QR codes and interactive floor plans in the Planon Apps, and tied bookings into Outlook. The setup automatically releases unused bookings, improved real‑time monitoring, reduced advance block bookings, sped up finding and booking rooms, and was implemented quickly (sensor install and testing in three weeks) on time and within budget.
