ETH Zürich, a world-leading university, tasked its Real Estate department with managing 205 buildings and 9 million sq ft of space with 220 staff and a CHF 60M annual budget. Knowledge was fragmented across people and point systems, while increasingly complex technical installations, changing space use and demand for cost transparency and charge-backs made an integrated software solution essential.

In 2004 ETH implemented Planon’s IWMS, integrated with its SAP landscape, to handle maintenance, work orders, contracts, service requests, asset and space management, AutoCAD integration, rent and access management. The platform centralized data, automated processes, improved quality and speed of change, and freed staff to focus on proactive improvements—becoming the backbone of ETH’s facilities and real estate operations.
