A PlanIT Geo Case Study
Birmingham Tree People, a nonprofit organization dedicated to planting and protecting Birmingham's urban forest, faced challenges in unifying disparate tree data from various city sources and strategically planning future plantings. They partnered with vendor PlanIT Geo to implement the TreePlotter INVENTORY software to create a single, reliable database for their citizen science inventory work and to identify inequities in canopy cover.
PlanIT Geo's solution involved providing TreePlotter INVENTORY to consolidate tree data and conducting an urban tree canopy assessment to be used with TreePlotter CANOPY. This technology empowered Birmingham Tree People to support the city's first Urban Forest Master Plan by guiding planting efforts for maximum impact, tracking progress towards 30-year goals, and establishing a unified data portal for the entire municipality.
