Room & Board Uses Planful to Support Growth Decisions

Room & Board, a national home furnishings retailer, faced slow, error-prone planning and reporting: hundreds of manual spreadsheets and data pulled from multiple systems made consolidations take hours or even weeks when adding new locations, and managers needed more timely, metric-driven insight. Finance lacked automation and a scalable FP&A process as the company’s data volume and reporting needs grew.

In May 2013 Room & Board implemented Planful, an Excel-based continuous planning platform administered by finance. Today 75 users plan and forecast across 55 cost centers (up 38%), consolidation time fell from about a day to 30 minutes, and managers receive unified, automated reports within a day. The platform enabled driver-based forecasting (e.g., delivery trucks, stops, average order), regular automated sales reports, and shifted finance from data gatherer to strategic business partner.
