Pennsylvania College Moves from Static Budgets to More Flexible Rolling Forecasts

Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences, a growing institution serving about 1,900 students, relied on a five-person finance team that managed budgeting through dozens of Excel files. Annual budgets involved 30+ department owners and a consolidation of some 40 spreadsheets into a single Excel workbook, a slow, error-prone process that could take four to five months and lacked version control or flexibility.

In January 2015 the college implemented Host Analytics, shifting from static annual budgets to cloud-based rolling forecasts with monthly updates. The change cut budgeting time from up to five months to one month, enabled faster scenario planning and executive reporting, integrated data from Oracle Lawson, Ellucian and Workday, and gave department heads more hands-on control for better, timelier decision-making.
