Planet Data Helps Advance the Promise of Digital Agriculture and Enables Novel Water Dynamics Research

The customer, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), sought to improve the accuracy of its environmental modeling for agriculture and water dynamics research. The challenge was acquiring satellite data with a high enough temporal and daily cadence to effectively monitor rapidly changing conditions like crop growth and coastal water flows at a large scale.

Using Planet’s PlanetScope and SkySat satellite data, KAUST researchers developed new methodologies for daily monitoring. The solution enabled precise predictions of crop yield and the tracking of coastal dye plumes, advancing the fields of precision agriculture and water resource management. Planet's data provided the necessary resolution to support sustainability policies and on-the-ground intervention decisions for food and water security initiatives.
