How Satellite Data Supports The City Budget

The City of Wrocław, Poland, faced a challenge in minimizing losses in tax revenue due to discrepancies in its tax collection process. Manually identifying unreported property changes like new constructions was a slow and unscalable task for the city's tax department. To address this, they implemented a Smart City strategy and turned to Planet's partner, SatRev, which leveraged Planet's satellite data.

Planet's solution, delivered through SatRev, provided scalable, satellite-based monitoring that automatically flagged changes not reflected in the official cadaster. This allowed the tax department to verify property classifications and plan controls efficiently. The project had a significant measurable impact, recovering 2 million PLN for the city budget, completely paying for itself, and positively changing citizen compliance with tax payments.
