Frequent satellite imagery generates critical environmental insights for Queensland, Australia

The customer, Geoplex, partnered with the vendor Planet to address a challenge faced by the Queensland state government. The government needed to better monitor, manage, and protect its vast natural resources, but its existing satellite imagery system provided infrequent updates and slow data delivery that hampered timely decision-making.

The solution implemented by Planet used its Monitoring product and Platform to deliver extremely frequent satellite imagery. This increased the frequency of capturing the entire state by over 700% and reduced the gap between capture and data delivery from months to just 24 hours. Planet provided terabytes of data through a cloud-based platform, which significantly improved the government's ability to act quickly on current information for tasks like monitoring reef health and land clearing.
