University of Illinois at Chicago - Customer Case Study

The Electronic Visualization Laboratory (EVL) at the University of Illinois at Chicago needed a higher‑fidelity, maintainable 3D visualization solution because its legacy projection system suffered from hot/cold spots, short projector‑bulb life, difficult maintenance and insufficiently flat surfaces for touch applications. To meet those needs, the lab selected Planar Systems' Clarity Matrix 3D LX46 video wall.

Planar Systems installed a 20‑panel Clarity Matrix 3D wall (46‑inch panels, 7.3 mm panel gaps, <4″ depth) with EasyAxis mounting, color‑calibration, flicker‑free stereoscopy and off‑board electronics. The result was seamless, high‑brightness, high‑resolution 3D visualization with improved touch reliability, easier service access and quieter operation — and measurable gains such as 50,000‑hour backlight life versus projector bulbs lasting only a few thousand hours, reducing downtime and maintenance while accelerating research collaboration.
