Case Study: SPAM Museum achieves interactive visitor engagement and immersive storytelling with Planar Systems displays

A Planar Systems Case Study

Preview of the SPAM Museum Case Study

SPAM® Museum employs Planar displays to convey the canned meat’s iconic story

The SPAM Museum in Austin, Minnesota sought to reimagine its 14,000-square-foot exhibit space as an interactive, family-friendly destination that could tell the global and wartime story of the SPAM® brand while engaging visitors of all ages. To deliver dynamic storytelling and hands-on activities, the museum partnered with Planar Systems to deploy touch‑screen and monitor solutions across exhibits, including Planar Helium Series interactive displays, Planar Simplicity Series LCDs and Planar PL Series desktop monitors.

Planar Systems supplied and integrated those displays throughout the museum—27" Helium touchscreens at the central “can” exhibit, Helium stations in the world market gallery, PL Series monitors for wartime newsreels and Simplicity Series screens for continuous video—enabling guests to play games, e‑mail recipes and designs, and compete in assembly challenges. The Planar Systems installation simplified control (power cycling tied to video signal), delivered reliable all‑day brightness and produced a more educational, interactive visitor experience praised by museum staff and integrator Electrosonic.
