Space Needle - Customer Case Study

Space Needle sought to modernize its observation-deck experience by using digital technology to immerse visitors in the landmark’s history and future. To accomplish this, Space Needle worked with Planar Systems to deploy a large-scale interactive Clarity Matrix video wall (Clarity Matrix MX55HDS) as the SkyPad, giving guests a bright, durable and touch-enabled focal point for education and entertainment.

Planar Systems supplied and mounted a 135-square-foot SkyPad composed of 15 Clarity Matrix displays in a 3x5 configuration using Planar’s EasyAxis mounting system and ERO protective glass, enabling a slim, serviceable installation with remote electronics that reduce weight by 40–60% and preserve 50,000-hour backlight life. The interactive solution (content by Belle & Wissell) delivers high-quality imagery (5.5 mm gaps, 800 nits, 3500:1 contrast) and features a 3x3 historical gallery plus a 1x3 digital guest book; since launch in July 2014 more than 50,000 people have added their names, demonstrating strong engagement and a measurable uplift in visitor interaction.
