Solving Crimes Quickly at the Chicago Police Command and Control Center

The Chicago Police Department’s Crime Prevention and Information Center (CPIC) needed a reliable, high‑visibility control room to collect and display real‑time camera feeds, gunshot detections, maps and databases so officers could get to crime scenes faster and with better intelligence. To meet this 24/7 mission they selected Planar Systems’ Clarity Matrix LCD Video Wall—an 18‑display installation—to serve as the central visualization tool for command and control operations.

Planar Systems provided the Clarity Matrix video wall with external quad controller and power supply modules (one power supply per four displays with a hot spare), Planar EasyAxis mounting, and integration into the room’s Crestron switching and operator touchscreens. The solution delivered continuous 24/7 availability—running nearly a year without recalibration—lower failure rates than previous displays, built‑in redundancy and rapid field serviceability, improving uptime and ensuring CPIC can quickly aggregate and relay critical information to officers in the field.
