San Francisco Museum of Modern Art - Customer Case Study

The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art undertook a three-year renovation that tripled gallery space and needed a reliable digital platform to attract, inform and engage visitors across expanded public and exhibition areas. Planar Systems supplied the museum with a comprehensive suite of displays — including the Clarity Matrix LCD Video Wall System, Planar RA, EP and PS Series displays and Planar Helium Series touch monitors — to support wayfinding, donor recognition and immersive content presentation.

Planar Systems installed multiple video wall arrays and interactive stations throughout SFMOMA, enabling real-time donor recognition updates (minutes instead of manual signage), life-size installation and artist videos, and personalized exploration of artworks via touchscreen-to-wall playback. The Planar solution delivered high image quality (up to 800 nits, Full HD/4K), commercial durability and easy serviceability (serviceable video wall modules and up to 50,000-hour lifespans), creating a consistent, engaging visitor experience and greater flexibility for exhibitions and programming.
