Planar Displays Attract and Engage at the Archives and Other Museums and Presidential Libraries

The National Archives and Records Administration needed an engaging, reliable way to give visitors access to hundreds of historic documents and multimedia in its Records of Rights exhibit while withstanding heavy daily use. Planar Systems answered that challenge with its Clarity Matrix LCD video wall technology for a multi-touch, 15-ft-long interactive table and the Planar Mosaic Architectural Video Wall as a large-format “electronic canvas” to display selected content.

Planar Systems’ solution—Clarity Matrix MX55HD tiles (3.7 mm tiled bezel, 800 nits, 1920 x 1080) forming a six-by-one touch table and Planar Mosaic arrays (AD22 and AD46 tiles) on the walls—was integrated into the gallery so visitors can touch, swipe and push records to the wall for shared viewing. The installation increased visitor engagement (especially among students), supports roughly one million visitors annually, and delivered higher uptime, lower maintenance and reduced cooling needs via Planar Systems’ off-board electronics design and fast service support.
