New LED Video Board Drives Excitement at the University of Portland Chiles Center

The University of Portland (UP), a private NCAA Division I school with about 4,000 students, needed to modernize the outdated four-sided center‑hung video board in the 4,852‑seat Chiles Center. They engaged Planar Systems to upgrade the arena display, selecting a Leyard CarbonLight CLI Series LED video wall (CLI3.9) to deliver contemporary LED performance and higher resolution.

Planar Systems installed a four‑sided Leyard CarbonLight CLI Series display with a 3.9mm pixel pitch and integrated it with UP’s existing video control infrastructure for a plug‑and‑play setup. The new LED board produced noticeably clearer replays and graphics, elevated production value, generated strong positive fan and season‑ticket holder feedback, and strengthened recruiting and game‑day atmosphere — delivering a measurable upgrade in image quality and functionality for University of Portland athletics.
