Metropolitan Museum of Art - Customer Case Study

The Metropolitan Museum of Art opened The Met Breuer as a new space for modern and contemporary art and needed a digital signage solution that would draw attention to exhibitions, support ticketing and programming, and fit seamlessly into the building’s historic Marcel Breuer-designed lobby without damaging the interior. The Met engaged Planar Systems to provide a display that could sit in a narrow stone recess, present highly detailed art and text both up close and at a distance, and allow front servicing where rear access wasn’t possible.

Planar Systems installed a Planar DirectLight LED Video Wall System (Model DL1.9) using the Planar EasyAlign Mounting System in a 30 ft × 6 ft configuration with a 1.9mm pixel pitch, 900–1,200 nit brightness and 80° viewing angle. The solution delivered deep blacks, high contrast and multi-source capability (four zones by day, full-screen content after hours), appears unobtrusive when off, and provides front access for maintenance while fitting the ~5" stone recess (mounted depth <4"). The installation improved image clarity for detailed content, increased street-level attraction for passers-by, and enabled The Metropolitan Museum of Art to better promote exhibitions and services.
