Kentucky Derby Museum - Customer Case Study

The Kentucky Derby Museum in Louisville, Kentucky — which welcomes more than 200,000 visitors annually and was rebuilt after a 2009 flood — wanted a dramatic, low‑maintenance way to immerse guests in the race experience as soon as they entered. The museum had been using a three‑screen rear‑projection system that was outdated, costly to maintain, and underperformed in the high ambient light of the entrance. Planar Systems was selected to provide a modern video wall solution using its Clarity Matrix LCD Video Wall System.

Planar Systems installed a 4x4 Clarity Matrix wall made of sixteen 46" panels (nearly 250 square feet) that deliver 700 nits of brightness, a narrow image gap, and long‑life backlights (~50,000 hours), mounted with Planar’s EasyAxis system for precise alignment and front access service. The new Planar Systems installation produces vivid, almost seamless race footage even in bright conditions, eliminates lamp‑replacement maintenance, and dramatically increases visual impact for museum visitors compared with the previous rear‑projection setup.
