Bill & Melinda Gates Center for Computer Science & Engineering - Customer Case Study

The Bill & Melinda Gates Center for Computer Science & Engineering at the University of Washington needed an engaging, architecturally integrated way to inspire students and showcase the region’s computing history in its main atrium. To meet that challenge, Planar Systems provided a Clarity Matrix MultiTouch LCD Video Wall System as the centerpiece for an interactive Tribute Wall that had to support multiple simultaneous users while blending seamlessly with the new facility.

Planar Systems installed a 25‑foot x 8‑foot Clarity Matrix MultiTouch in a 6x3 configuration (supporting up to 32 touch points) with a modular protective touch surface and distributed architecture to minimize heat and noise. Combined with proximity sensors, a custom content management system and more than 100 authored stories, the Tribute Wall delivers responsive, multiuser storytelling that engages visitors, reinforces the building’s mission to inspire future technologists, and complements the Gates Center’s broader role in expanding the Allen School’s capacity.
