Telefónica Movistar launches immersive VR TV across 5 platforms with Plain Concepts

Telefónica Movistar, a major telecommunications company in Spain, wanted to showcase a pilot project for the future of television at Mobile World Congress 2018. Their challenge was to develop a virtual reality application that would allow multiple users to share a synchronized, immersive viewing experience of Movistar content and interact with each other, all while supporting a wide range of VR devices. They partnered with vendor Plain Concepts to create this platform.

Plain Concepts designed and built a multi-platform VR application featuring public and private rooms with synchronized playback, voice communication, and customizable avatars. The solution was fully compatible with major VR devices like Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. As a result, Plain Concepts delivered a successful pilot that demonstrated a fully immersive social television experience, allowing Telefónica Movistar to present its vision for the future of interactive media at the event.
